BIOGRAPHY

Born in Sussex, Sophie began her musical education as a chorister at St. Bede’s School (now Bede’s) in Eastbourne, and as a music scholar at Ardingly College. She studied at Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance), during which time she won a Choral Scholarship to St Martin-in-the-Fields. She has an Honours degree in Music and was awarded First Class for her final recital.

Sophie is a London-based singer and has worked in opera and in concert and session work. She has sung much of the choral repertoire as a soloist throughout the UK and abroad including soprano solos in Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Fauré Requiem, Händel Messiah, Mozart Mass in C and Bernstein Chichester Psalms (Johannesburg). Other choral works in her repertoire include Elgar Dream of Gerontius (Hamburg, Rheingau Festival & Chapel of King’s College Cambridge), Berlioz Grande Messe des morts (Lyon & St Paul’s Cathedral), Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (Hamburg, Valencia, Alicante, Royal Festival Hall & Chapel of King’s College Cambridge), Händel Messiah (Valencia), Rossini Stabat Mater (Valencia), Holst The Planets (Royal Festival Hall), World Première of John Powell A Prussian Requiem (Royal Festival Hall), Beethoven Missa Solemnis (Alicante, Valencia & Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg), Beethoven Symphony No.9 ‘Choral’ (Royal Festival Hall), Mahler Symphony No.2 ‘Resurrection’ (Royal Albert Hall & Royal Festival Hall), Mahler Symphony No.8 (Valencia), Orff Carmina Burana (Royal Festival Hall), Ravel Daphnis et Chloé (Lille), Poulenc Sept Répons des Ténèbres (Lille), Walton Belshazzar’s Feast (Royal Festival Hall) and Haydn Creation (Bath Abbey).

Stage work has included chorus work for Opera Holland Park (Norma, Adriana Lecouvrer, I Gioielli della Madonna, L’elisir d’amore, Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci, Yevgeny Onyegin, Falstaff, Don Pasquale, La Bohème, Orpheus in the Underworld, Fidelio, The Magic Flute, Tosca), Sprite in the European Première of Fantastic Mr. Fox for Opera Holland Park and Carmen chorus for Ellen Kent Opera. Sophie sang for English National Opera’s recording of Verdi Macbeth for Chandos and has performed for Sky Arts Television. Film music includes live performances of Gladiator, Amadeus and The World Première of Breakfast at Tiffany’s at The Royal Albert Hall.

Sophie has held permanent positions as a member of the choirs of St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Soho Square and St Anselm & St Cæcilia, Lincoln’s Inn Fields. She is a member of the Philharmonia Chorus Professional Singer Scheme and London’s DepList. Recent performances include jazz and French cafe songs in and around south west London.
